JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Applied Optical - Electrical Engineer

Location: Metro-Boston, MA

 

SUMMARY:

The person will work to develop Companys expertise and capabilities in optics, control systems and holography. The engineer will work with other scientists and engineers in developing optical apparatus and methods for recording master and copy holograms for product applications incorporating holographic optical elements. Additionally, the person will interact with the media manufacturing team providing media for holographic mastering and copying. This position will require hands-on skills in use of lasers, opto-mechanical components with control systems, recording, characterizing and QC of holographic optical elements and optics design.  Organizational and interpersonal skills to work effectively on different projects and tasks within a multi-disciplinary team environment are also a must.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Maintain optical alignment and functioning of existing test systems and equipment with interface to LabView software control, and develop improved optical-mechanical apparatus with control systems for recording and copying holographic optical elements
  • Model optical systems for recording, testing and use of holographic optical elements
  • Apply feedback from applications scientists and engineers to identify new methods and apparatus designs for near term applications of holographic optical elements
  • Generate and analyze engineering results to support product specifications, publications, filing of patent applications and QC protocols
  • Present and document progress at engineering group and project team meetings
  • Ability to interact closely with other team members
  • Carry out all work using good lab practices and safe working styles

 

QUALIFICATIONS Required:

  • Masters Degree (or Bachelor of Science with 3-5 years experience in a related field) in Optics, Applied Optics or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong skill set including practical hands-on experience in setting up optical-mechanical systems with controls to be used with lasers
  • Knowledge of LabView programming or equivalent for control of opto-mechanics
  • Willingness and demonstrated aptitude to acquire new skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and capability for multi-tasking
  • Self-starter who requires minimal supervision to be productive
  • Working in a small company environment and/or transitioning R&D methods and apparatus to manufacturing methods and systems.
