JOB DESCRIPTION:
Medical Director will be responsible for overall medical services for Community Health Center patients. The Medical Director should be able to work cooperatively and effectively with CEO, should utilize a balanced approach which includes the perspectives of all disciplines involved in health services, and should have a role definition which is flexible enough to accommodate the diversity of programs offered through the center.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
To help develop and review with the centers Governing Council its annual health care plan as it relates to medical services based upon the community needs-assessment demographics, disease patterns of the community and health behavior of the community.
Develop annual goals and objectives for medical staff.
Participate in the development of the projects financial plan (budget) with ongoing monitoring and evaluation of such.
Prepare and recommend qualifications statements for credentialing, and job descriptions and evaluation standards for all medical personnel.
Advise on medical information systems needs; develop, recommend, and conduct special studies of operations.
Provide day-to-day clinical supervision of assigned clinical and medical staff.
Advocate for the center and serve as liaison to (including active membership in) local hospitals, local and state professional societies, as well as to health officials, organizations, and health training institutions as appropriate.
Supervise development, implementation, and operations of the Quality Assurance Program as it relates to patient care.
Establish, review, and maintain medical standards with the aim of assuring the quality of medical care provided to clinic patients.
The Medical Director shall oversee the implementation of a peer review system.

PATIENT CARE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Has a close working relationship with the Clinic Coordinator to ensure excellent quality of patient care and service.
Evaluates individual provider performance, with respect to their care and service, including patient access and in conjunction with the department chair provides meaningful, and direct feedback to the provider regarding clinical performance.
Coaches and mentors staff.
MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Is a board certified (preferably primary care) physician in his /her specialty and able to practice medicine. The Medical Director should have a strong community health/public health orientation. Should be experienced in a rural, as well as an urban setting, be experienced in patient care management, and have an interest, as well as experience in managing major clinical activities for the medical underserved. Must have highly developed leadership skills, collaborative communication and interpersonal skills. Must have an outstanding record in clinical care and education as well documented expertise in management of community health care services. 5-10 years experience as a Physician Executive, Spanish speaking, mission minded, dynamic personality, strong communicator, risk management experience, case management and utilization review experience.
