Position Summary
 

The VP of Construction is responsible for developing business and executing that business to the clients satisfaction, consistent with cost, schedule and contractual requirements to maximize financial objectives. This position is also responsible for overall client interface and communication to insure total client satisfaction. Another key responsibility is complete oversight and leadership of the home office construction personnel to include construction managers, estimating, administrative personnel, and other staff as required.


 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

The most complex challenge for this position is anticipating and reacting to an ever changing market and the challenges that arise from these changes. Typical challenges that can arise from these changes are balancing required staff with solid backlog of work and prospective work. This position requires a very proactive business style and strategic thinker.

Time Allocation:
40% - BD, Client Interface, Strategic Planning.
40% - Project construction oversight.
20% - Staff guidance and leadership.
 

  • Create and monitor development plans for direct reports.
  • Develop and maintain standards and procedures for Project Managers.
  • Responsible for performing work in accordance with the Companys Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct and functioning as role models; and evaluating subordinates (if applicable) based on their commitment to the Code.
  • Must adhere to schedules, budgets, and ensure customer satisfaction at all times.
  • Up to 30% travel.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Development of long-range growth strategies that will contribute the necessary return on sales and return on operating assets to meet the expectations of our owners.
  • Ensures that all projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to pre-established specifications and contractual terms. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish these goals.
  • Complete emphasis and dedication to office and project site safety.
  • Responsible for the oversight of planning and directing all construction related functions.
  • Must have a complex knowledge of construction concepts and activities including but not limited to Scheduling, Design, Permitting, Bidding, Estimating, Contracting, Job Costing, Construction Management, Bonds, Insurance and Government requirements.
  • Organizational skills are mandatory due to the fact that this position oversees multiple projects at once.
  • Proficient with MS Office programs including Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, exceptional communication, negotiation and analytical skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within a team.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.

Minimum Education and Experience
 


Education: Bachelors Degree in Architecture, Engineering and/or Construction Management

Work Experience: 15 + years of experience in construction with significant experience in Procurement, Estimating, Construction Management, Construction Accounting, Business Development, and client interface.

Industry Experience: 12 + years, preferred experience: Military projects for the Army Corps of Engineers and/or NAVFAC.
