JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Mechatronics Engineer
Reports to: V/P of Technology Products & Delivery Systems
Location: Denver, CO
Job Purpose: To provide technical design expertise for mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment utilized for the manufacture and delivery of bulk and packaged explosives and their precursors.
Essential Duties
Safety, Health, Environment & Security
- Model SH&E leadership through all personal activities and interactions
- Actively participate in the hazard identification and risk assessment of any new technologies
- Participate in change control processes and their application
- Participate in the use of all SH&E systems and programs, including Take 5.
Performance measures
- Take 5’s completed
- Participation in SH&E activities
- Completion of actions on SH&E improvement plan
- Alteration Authority closeout performance
Commercial Ownership – run the business as if it’s your own
- Develop cost effective designs to produce or deliver Emerging Technologies
- Design, test and construct innovative manufacturing and delivery systems
- Define and adhere to standards and protocols for the development and use of technologies applicable to the manufacturing and delivery of bulk & packaged explosives and their precursors.
- Contribute to intellectual property generation and protection.
- Document design basis for key elements of equipment used.
- Lead or contribute to development of test procedures and testing of equipment.
- Manage external service providers to ensure effective delivery (time, cost, quality).
Performance measures
- Standards and protocols identified
- Verification and validation process in place
- Technical reports generated and appropriately stored
- Project delivery to agreed milestones
- Patents etc in place
Creative Customer Solutions
- Scan environment for novel technologies applicable to the manufacturing, construction and delivery of bulk explosives and their precursors.
- Ensure designs and novel technologies are robust through the use of appropriate verification & validation processes
- Identify improvement opportunities to transform existing manufacturing, construction and delivery processes into productive automated systems.
Performance measures
- Novel technologies identified and assessed
- Automation of existing work practices
Working Together
- Lead or contribute to the handover of new equipment to company Engineering
- Proactively contribute to programs as required
- Collaborate with other teams in the areas of automation and mechanical equipment to ensure a consistent . Collaborate with others to test, commission and deliver operationally functional systems.
Performance measures
- Active consultation requested/given
- Handover documentation completed.
Operating environment:
- This role is responsible for the development and initial implementation of new technologies applicable to the manufacturing and delivery of bulk & packaged explosives and their precursors.
- Regional and international travel up to 25%.
- Work in underground and surface mines.
- Work in temperature and climate extremes.
- The role reports to the Mechanical Systems Manager and forms an integral part of the overall Products & Delivery Systems team. This role interacts globally with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Dimensions:
- Influence over R&D spend of $1M USD pa.
- No direct reports, but some management of external contractors
Qualification requirements
- High level of technical competence.
- Well-developed Analytical assessment skills.
- Effective communication abilities across all levels of the organization.
- Engineering or similar, Bachelors or higher qualification
- 3-5 years relevant industrial experience.
